Reliable Recycled Roof Tiles & Roofing Materials – Serving Sydney with Quality You Can Trust

YOUR ONE STOP ROOFING SHOP

Discontinued Monier Roof Tiles

Matching a Discontinued Monier Tile

Monier tiles sit on a huge number of Sydney roofs, and plenty of the profiles on them are no longer made. When a profile is dropped, the tiles already on your roof are still perfectly good. You just cannot buy more of them new, and a newer profile rarely sits flush beside the old one.

That is the gap Roof Tile Recyclers fills. We hold between 150,000 and 200,000 second hand and obsolete roof tiles at our Prospect yard, and many of them are discontinued profiles salvaged from demolitions and renovations across NSW, sorted by profile and manufacturer.

Send a photo of the face and the underside of your tile with a tape measure in shot, or call (02) 9756 3350. If we have it, we confirm quickly. If we do not have it right now, we can let you know when it comes in.

Old Monier profiles are exactly what lets us match the next repair. We buy used tiles and pay for every piece on the day we collect, from renovations, demolitions and knock-down rebuilds. Send photos and an estimated count.

Many of the tiles we hold are profiles no longer manufactured by Monier, in both concrete and terracotta. Tell us the profile and the quantity and we will confirm stock before you order.

Why Monier Profiles Get Discontinued

Manufacturers update their ranges for ordinary commercial reasons. Tastes change, manufacturing improves, some profiles cost more to produce than others, and when demand for a profile drops far enough it no longer makes sense to keep the moulds running.

The trouble comes when the replacement is close but not the same. A newer profile can differ slightly in length, overlap and edge detail, so it will not sit flush next to an original tile, and its colour has not weathered alongside your roof. Profiles such as the Monier Roman, a concrete tile with an S shaped profile used widely across NSW in the 1970s and 1980s, and the concrete version of the Monier Marseilles have been out of production for years.

We have written up some of the roof tile profiles that are hardest to find, and the current ranges are on our Monier concrete and Monier terracotta pages if you want to check whether yours is still made.

How We Identify Your Monier Tile

We work from the underside. Monier embossed the manufacturer name and profile name into its tiles during production, so the back of a tile usually tells us far more than a face that has weathered for decades.

  • Take a clear photo of the face of the tile, showing the full face
  • Take a second photo of the underside, where the stamp, profile name or production code usually sits
  • Photograph the side interlock and measure the exposed width and height
  • Send it through, or follow our guide to identifying a roof tile from a photo and a tape measure

If you can bring a loose tile to our Prospect yard, a physical sample settles it fastest. With one in hand we have a 99.99% chance of finding you a working substitute, even where the original manufacturer no longer exists.

If an Exact Match Is Not in Stock

A discontinued tile does not have to force a re-roof. Where the exact profile is not in the yard, there are still options.

  • Move tiles around. Relocate matching tiles from a less visible part of the roof, such as the back or side, to replace damaged tiles at the front, then fill the less visible area with the closest recycled match.
  • Separate the new from the old. Mixed profiles can work with a clear design intent, for example on a garage, an awning or a rear extension that is naturally separated from the main roof.
  • Paint to blend. All tiles can be painted, concrete or terracotta, provided the correct undercoat is used, and we sell the products needed to do it.

There is no minimum order, and across the whole yard the spread from the cheapest second hand tile to the dearest is only about $1.50. For more on the choices, see what to do when your roof tile is no longer manufactured.

Discontinued Monier Questions

How do I know if my Monier tile has been discontinued?

Check the underside for the stamp and profile name, then compare it with the current Monier concrete and Monier terracotta ranges. If you cannot find it, send us photos and we will identify it.

Will a new Monier tile match my old roof?

Usually not exactly. Replacement profiles can differ slightly in dimensions, overlap and edge detail, and a new tile has not weathered alongside your roof. A reclaimed tile of the original profile generally sits and reads better.

What do second hand Monier tiles cost?

Prices vary by profile and by what it cost us to recover the tiles, but from the cheapest to the dearest tile in the yard there is only about a $1.50 difference.

Is there a minimum order?

No. If the repair needs one tile, you can buy one tile.

Do you deliver?

Yes. Most in-store products go out the same day across Sydney, and we can arrange delivery anywhere in Australia through a number of logistics companies.

Do you install roof tiles?

No. We supply the tiles rather than fit them. Please follow the links on our website for recommended contractors in your area.
