Second Hand Roof Tiles Newcastle
Second Hand Roof Tiles in Newcastle
Newcastle and the Hunter carry a lot of roof that predates the profiles currently on sale. The older suburbs around Hamilton, Merewether and Mayfield sit under terracotta from makers who no longer exist, and the post-war expansion brought concrete profiles that were discontinued years ago. Matching a handful of tiles can be harder than replacing the lot, which is how people end up being quoted a full re-roof for a few breakages.
Roof Tile Recyclers keeps between 150,000 and 200,000 second hand and obsolete roof tiles at our Prospect yard, across hundreds of discontinued Monier, Bristile and Wunderlich profiles, and we arrange freight north to Newcastle and the Hunter.
With over 35 years in the roofing industry, we are a certified company supplying homeowners, builders and roofers. Send a photo of your tile with a tape measure in shot, or call (02) 9756 3350, and we will identify the profile and check stock before you commit.

What Is Likely on a Newcastle Roof
Newcastle carries two quite different kinds of roof. The older suburbs around Hamilton, Merewether and Mayfield are largely pre-war housing under terracotta, much of it from makers who have not produced a tile in decades. Post-war expansion through the newer suburbs and out into the Hunter brought concrete profiles, many since discontinued in turn.
Coastal exposure is the other factor here that inland roofs do not share. Salt weathering changes how a tile ages and how visible a mismatch will be, so a replacement that reads correctly on a sheltered plane can look obviously new on a face that has taken thirty years of sea air.
We hold hundreds of discontinued Monier, Bristile and Wunderlich profiles in both terracotta and concrete.
Freight to Newcastle and the Hunter
Newcastle sits roughly 160 kilometres north of our Prospect yard, a straight run up the M1 but still outside our own delivery route. Orders travel on a pallet through our logistics partners, quoted per job rather than at a flat rate.
Because it is a shorter haul than most of our interstate work, smaller consignments are often more viable to Newcastle than they are further afield. It is worth asking even for a repair quantity.
- Pallet count and weight. Tiles are heavy, so quantity drives the price more than the distance does.
- Unloading access at the address. Forklift, hard standing, or a residential kerb are three different prices.
- Depot collection or delivery to site. Plenty of Hunter customers collect from a Newcastle depot and save on the final leg.
Ordering From Newcastle
You cannot walk the racks from Newcastle, so we work off photographs. Send the face of the tile, the underside and the side interlock, each with a tape measure in shot, and we will identify the profile and check stock against it. The underside matters more than the face, because it carries the maker’s ribbing and lug pattern while a weathered face tells us very little.
Before anything ships we photograph the actual tiles allocated to your order so the weathering and colour are not a surprise when the pallet arrives, and we quote the tiles and the freight separately for you to approve. Our guide to identifying a roof tile from a photo and a tape measure covers exactly what to capture.
Delivering to Newcastle
Do you deliver roof tiles to Newcastle?
Yes. Newcastle is about 160 kilometres north of Prospect, outside our own delivery run, so orders go on a pallet through our logistics partners. Freight is quoted per job and you approve it before anything is loaded.
What does freight to Newcastle cost?
It depends on pallet count, weight and unloading access at the address. Tell us the quantity and whether the site has a forklift, a hard standing area, or only a residential kerb, and we will quote it properly rather than estimating on the day.
Can I collect from a depot in Newcastle?
Usually yes, and on smaller orders it is generally the cheaper option. Ask when you enquire and we will price both ways so you can compare.
Do you install roof tiles in Newcastle?
No. We supply the tiles rather than fit them, so you or your roofer handle installation. We are happy to talk your roofer through anything they need to know about the profile.
